Data Restore - Corrupted File

Post by Breezer » Thu Jan 12, 2012 4:46 pm

Hi,

Is there a way to "repair" a corrupted backup ?

I'm trying to restore a backup made with R-Drive Image but the backup is corrupted and I can't do anything to get the info out of the backup.

Is there an existing tool to "open as an explorer" the backup file ? (.arc)

Thank you for your answer ASAP,

Olivier Bussières

Well, if a compressed file is corrupted, it's very hard to repair it, because even one corrupted byte affects others around it, the higher compression ratio, the more neighbours affected.
You may still try to connect the image as a read-only logical disk. See R-Drive Image help: Connect an Image as a Virtual Logical Disk. Although, this is possible when the image isn't corrupted severely.

I'd like to add that if the image file is corrupted somewhere in its middle, it can be connected and the data will be readable except the corrupted place.

Hi,

Even if I try to "Connect an Image as a Virtual Logical Disk", I still get an error.

In this simple .arc file, I have 2 backups, 20Nov and 30November.

If I try to "Connect an Image as a Virtual Logical Disk" with the first one(20Nov...) I get this error:
Cannot connect an image: "Le fichier ou le répertoire est endommagé et illisible (1392).

But if I try with the other one(30Novembre), I get this error:
Cannot connect an image: "Le fichier image spécifié ne contenait pas de section ressource(1812).

I only need to get access to the root of the C:

Thank you for your answer, asap.

Unfortunately, I don't understand French, could you translate those messages into English?

This is not the "offical" translation, but mines...
The file or the directory is damaged and unreadable (1392).

The specified file did not contain ressource section (1812).

As I said, those are not the officials translations but with the error number we should be able to get the universal error ...

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, no good news. The message means that the part of the image containing the info about its partition structure is damaged. That means that R-Drive Image cannot understand how to interpret the data in it. Sorry
Well, you may try our data recovery program R-Studio. It understands the images created by R-Drive Image, and it's possible to scan the image to try to find disk C:. This is a pay program, but you can test it for free in its Demo mode to estimate if it's worth buying it.
