Regarding Last Operation - Copy Boot Partition\Loader

Post by BattleStar_Galactica » Wed Nov 19, 2014 3:20 pm

Hello,

We have two Linux file systems that use LILO as a boot-loader. When the backup is restored and is booted, we get a black screen with "LL". However when we look at the data, everything is there, it just won't boot. What exactly does that last operation of the restore process do or look for? I don't expect help on this issue since we will just do a clean install, but it would be nice to understand exactly what that operation is doing. Thanks for your time and effort in the quality of your product.

That operation recovers loader data from MBR and some sectors between MBR and the first partition. LILO stores numbers of sectors necessary for loading. If something has been moved on the disk, LILO may not work.
