What is a LVM Protective Partition?
Hi all,
I had a FreePBX phone server die on a client the other day. In an effort to make restoration as quick and easy as possible, I took the SSD out and created a byte-for-byte image with R-Studio.
Now, I was looking to just pull specific files out of the drives, but I am only seeing a LVM Protective Partition with a couple volume names under it. This appliance came pre-loaded with FreePBX, so I didn't do the original drive formatting or anything. Is this some sort of Linux encrypted partition? That said, do I have any chance of reading the contents of the drive, even if I can boot it to a new motherboard? Or, if this is encryption, is it tied to the motherboard such that I can't boot to it or retrieve any data?
Or is R-Studio just the wrong program to read this drive?
Thanks!

Re: What is a LVM Protective Partition?
Update -- I guess it isn't encrypted as I can ready it with Paragon Linux File Systems for Windows.... Perhaps R-Studio just doesn't support LVM?
Re: What is a LVM Protective Partition?
An LVM Protective Partition is a partition where LVM creates its volumes to store its data. It may be encrypted, it may be not. R-Studio supports LVM.
As to your case, did you try to open any of the volumes with R-Studio?

I did try to open the volumes but I wasn't able to read any contents even after a full scan. As mentioned I could read it with other software, so the LVM is not encrypted...

I don't see where I can attach files to a support ticket.
