Regardless of which program you eventually use, no formatting, no other data writing on those disks! Better create images of them before doing any data recovery. If you value your data, of course.
You may use R-Undelete:

In this mode R-Undelete will do all data recovery tasks except actual recovery of files larger than 64K. You may search for the lost files, scan disks, etc. When you've found your lost files you may estimate chances for recovery by previewing the files.
