I don't think this is a good idea. A temporal backup of the data, then formatting the disk and restoring the data is a much better and easier way.
If you have no place to store the backup data, you may borrow a spare disk from your friends, for example.

guys i want to format my 1tb wd external hard disk.. i really wont to lose any data, so i was thinking that i detailed scan my HDD before formatting it and save the scan result... my question is will the saved scan work after i format my hard disk or i have to scan it again??? or if i copy other data i my HDD after formatting it, will the saved scan work???
