I ended up using a partition tool from easeus to shrink the size of the partition before making an image with r-drive. After loading the image onto the SSD, Windows wouldn't boot until I took the Windows 7 dvd and ran startup repair. Everything's working great now.

This isn't working for me. I have a 500gb drive that I want to copy onto a 128gb ssd. Only 45gb is in use. The first time I tried to load the image onto the ssd, it said the destination disk was too small and the minimum required size was 400GB. I did a disk defrag like suggested and now it says ...
