Scan moving at a snail's pace...a very slow snail

I scanning a 4TB external HD with R-Studio for Mac. It was clipping right along at first but seems to have stalled to almost no movement sometime during the night. In the last 8 hours it has advanced from 2161049616 sectors to 2161050384. That's 768 sectors in 10 hours. Not so speedy. Any suggestions?

The drive is degraded and has encountered bad sectors, which likely as the cause of the original issue. The drive needs to be professionally imaged or it will not complete.

I hit stop and then it failed to finish saving when given all night. Had to force stop it....

Quite right. Most likely the drive is failing. Did R-Studio throw any error about bad sectors?

I stopped it and ran it again. It has scanned through the entire disk but now won't complete the scan. It has been like this for many hours.

Yes, it encountered a couple of problems but it read through them and appears to have read scanned the entire disk. If anything, it is reporting that it has read more sectors than it reports the disk to have. This disk was working fine before it was accidentally reformatted.

Once again, it is failing to save the scan after having stopped it too.
