The Best Mop for Vinyl Floors

Post by michealspencer » Mon Apr 26, 2021 7:45 am

Among many of the advantages of vinyl floors is that it is highly durable and relatively easy to clean.

Compared to hardwood, vinyl floors aren’t as susceptible to scratches or moisture, which simplifies maintenance. However, that doesn’t mean vinyl is as strong as concrete or bricks. You still need to have the proper cleaning technique to keep the floor beautiful for a long time.

Today, from the desk of our staff member Jennifer Rodriquez, we’ll introduce you to your best mop for vinyl floors. Having a good mop can make cleaning vinyl floors significantly easier and less anxiety-inducing.

Why You Need the Best Mop for Vinyl Floors

While vinyl floors are a step up from natural hardwood or laminate floors in terms of durability, it’s not invincible. If you don’t have the right cleaning technique, the floor could curl, cup, lift, warp, or develop mold, mildew, scratches, and stains in only a short time.

Many of these problems could be remedied by simply having a good mop.

For example, although vinyl floors are hardened against moisture, that doesn’t mean you should soak it with water all the time. A good mop can limit the amount of moisture that’s applied to the floor. By keeping it low, you reduce the chance of water stain or discoloration forming.

Another problem is dents and scratches. There are many mops on the market that are highly abrasive. If you track them across the floor, the tough bristles could gouge deep into the floorboards, causing unsightly scratches.

Such scratches tend to be permanent and can only be “fixed” by replacing the entire floorboard. That, of course, costs a lot of money. Even though vinyl floorboards are cheap, hiring a professional to fix up your floor could run you anywhere between $250 to $1,700.

It’s better to play it safe and buy a vinyl floor-compatible mop from the get-go. Trust us, it’ll save you a lot of headache in the long run.

Best mop for vinyl floors: Buying guide and TOP suggestion

1. Turbo Microfiber Mop Floor Cleaning System

Besides having decent performance on vinyl floors (and many other floor types), the Turbo Microfiber Mop Floor Cleaning System also stands out thanks to its design. Specifically, it is one of the lightest mops in our database, weighing only 1.2 pounds. If you’re looking for a mop that won’t bog you down or cause your muscles to ache, this is going to be a fitting buy.

But let’s talk about performance first.

Attached to its cleaning head is a microfiber mop. The softness of the mop ensures that the mop won’t scratch up or damage the floor’s surface in any way. Tiny hair within the mop picks up dirt and debris easily as you track it across the floor. The microfiber material soaks up any excess moisture and keeps the floor from becoming too wet.

Around the edge of the mop is a thick, padded rim. This rim protects the wall or furniture from being damaged when you bump the mop into them.

One problem we noticed with this model is that the microfiber pad attaches to the mop via velcro. This velcro patch is quite loose.

The cleaning head is attached to a 360° rotating joint. With it, you can maneuver more fluidly across the room and maneuver the mop into tight spaces and around obstacles.

To achieve a lighter design, the mop is primarily made from plastic. The handle is cast from a hollow aluminum tube. Notably, the handle comes with a rubber grip to make it more comfortable for you to hold.

2. O-Cedar EasyWring Microfiber Spin Mop

The O-Cedar EasyWring comes as a set. You will get the mop itself as well as a water bucket.

Similar to the Turbo mop, the O-Cedar EasyWring’s mopping head is made from microfiber. Soft and gentle, the mop can scrub the floor clean without damaging it. Our tests also showed that the mop is highly effective at limiting the amount of moisture on the floor. There’s just a sheen of moisture on the floor after a mopping session. No puddles or soaked spots that could cause stains or discoloration.

You will be able to effectively clean the floor without having to rely on too many chemicals.

The highlight of the O-Cedar EasyWring is the hands-free wringing. Place the mop into the bucket and step on the foot pedal. This will spin the mop and wring off all of the excess moisture.

We got no complaint regarding the design. It is maneuverable and lightweight enough that the using experience is comfortable and easy.

However, we noticed quite a few design flaws with this model. First, the handle — while adjustable — can be a bit short for some people. It only extends to around 48 inches. Secondly, because this is a rather budget mop, the materials used don’t have high quality. This can negatively impact the mop’s lifespan and overall durability.

3. Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Microfiber Floor mop

If you need a versatile spray mop for your vinyl floors, the Rubbermaid Reveal is going to be a good choice.

The mopping head accepts a microfiber mop which, as we’ve learned with the earlier two models, is excellent at cleaning vinyl. Soft and gentle, the mop won’t damage the surface of the vinyl. It can also soak up excess moisture that could potentially cause stains and discoloration on your floor.

In addition to the soft microfiber mop, you also have a scrubber at the top of the mopping head. It allows you to clean up more stubborn stains and debris. The scrubber is non-scratch, so it’s totally safe for use on vinyl floors.

The Rubbermaid Reveal comes with a 22-ounce spray bottle on-board. You can use the trigger on the handle to apply as much water and detergent as you’d need.

Depending on how hard you squeeze the trigger, the amount of detergent applied is going to be different. For big messes, give a hard squeeze and you’ll be able to saturate it. For normal floor cleaning, a light squeeze can mist the surface to help you take out dust.

This highly versatile design means you don’t have to drag around a water bucket with you as you clean. You’d have more control over the amount of detergent you use, too!

Conclusion

As you can see, having the best mop for vinyl floors is absolutely important if you want to keep your floors shiny and spotless for years to come. Any of these three models can help you do the job. Take your picks based on your needs and budget!
