R-Studio 4.9 filled up my internal SSD while recovering to an external one

Post by Maxence CINEMI » Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:36 am

Hey guys,

I'm using R-Studio on High Sierra to recover the content of a RAID 0 that doesn't mount anymore but works like a charm using R-Studio to read the files.
Why I don't know.

I recovered a part of the files and I'm trying to recover the others.
But after few minutes of copying from the internal RAID to an external drive, R-Studio stoped and told me that we were running out of space. (remains 3to free on the external disk)
In fact, while copying to the external disk, it filled up my internal system SSD also with non visible files (I tried my best to find them).

So now I'm stuck with a SSD with 10go remaining free on 512 (I had 300go free yesterday) and no possibilities at all to free this space.

Anyone knows where a stored these files and how I can get rid of it?
@RTT-Team any idea? My workstation is pretty much dead so far with so little space available

EDIT: To be accurate it seems that it's stored somewhere in my User/myname/ folder but even revealing hidden files and folders won't leads me to any clue. The folder is set to weight 320go but each folder found inside is barely 2/4 go...

Many thanks,
Maxence.

What is the file system on the external disk?

It's HFS+
The external HD is a physical disk in a ICY BOX external device.

The previous external SSD where I recovered the most important files was too HFS+ and did no mistake recovering 2To.

I don't know what's going wrong but it really went wrong.

EDIT: Grand Perspective app is showing a disk with 152go filled. osX is telling me that 490 go is filled.
i'm lost

SO I finally found a solution!!!

I used DaisyDisk as an administrator and found out that the external disk was backed-up by R-Studio in the Volume folder while recovering the datas to the external disk.

What a mess.
I deleted the files.

Hope it will help.

I believe this is connected with the symbolic links:
Symbolic links (symlinks).

mmh ok petty interesting.

I guess something went wrong. I remember now that 2 times the external HD unmounted itself and then re mounted automatically and that R-Studio did not stop to recover datas.

Maybe it was at this moment that it all went wrong.
