Recovery of Open Office files

Post by vanhuben » Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:07 am

Is R-Studio supposed to recover Open Office Writer 3.1 (ODT) files? The extension isn't listed in the known file types but the files show up after a scan. There's no indication of a problem (no red X) when I recover (copy) them to the good hard drive. So it seems all is well. However, when I try to open them, the majority of them are garbled jibberish. 1 out of 12 seemed to work. Of the other 250 GB of recovered data (various types of files), most of the files recovered properly. Overall the recovery was quite successful. But it seems the failure rate on the ODT files is quite poor relative to all other file types. Is this a shortcoming of the product?

Thank you,

Try the latest R-Studio version and this Known File Type file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FileTypeList>
<FileType id="129" group="Document" description="OpenOffice text document" extension="odt">
<Signature offset="30">mimetypeapplication/vnd\x2Eoasis\x2Eopendocument\x2EtextPK\x03</Signature>
<Signature from="end" offset="43">META-INF/manifest\x2ExmlPK</Signature>
</FileType>
</FileTypeList>
