Recovery from a drive that had a byte by byte image applied

Post by digi_vidkid » Thu May 17, 2012 12:00 am

I have been given the task to determine if data can be recovered from a Mac HFS+ Hard Drive that accidentally had a byte by byte image restore done to it. Is this possible? The person who did the accidental re-image stopped the re-image at 90% once they realized the mistake. The capacity of the HD and the image were the same.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, when the image was restored to the disk, its data overwrote the data on the disk, at least 90% of it. When the data is overwritten, it's gone, and nothing can be done about this. You may try to scan for known file types the last 10% of the disk in attempt to find something, but chances are really low.
