Hi - a couple of weeks ago one of our 8Tb SAN (Thecus 8800) reported as raw to one of our servers (Windows 2008 R2) - we were advised by Thecus to buy your product to scan the volume to see if data was still available.

We did and it can see the data. I then created another SAN with 11Tb to be the recovery area and started copying the data on Friday, when I came in on Monday I noticed the free space on the new SAN was down to 700Gb and I thought it had worked - but the recovery process was only 20% through, ie, it had only recovered 2Tb but this used up 10Tb on the SAN.

I then tried it on another spare SAN we have - this time setup as JBOD so there is 15Tb available - this time it couldn't even write a 365k file without say there was no space. Both SANS (the one I am trying to recover) and the new one have XFS file systems and are accessed via iSCSI. Do you have any suggestions?

BTW I tried to submit this as a support request, but your Captcha verification is messed up on the form.

Thanks

Did you select all files for recovery and did you select Extra the Found Files folder?

Yes to the first, but I didn't select Extra the Found Files folder.

Sorry, I missed this crucial point. R-Studio doesn't support the XFS file system. So, the only option is scan for known file types (raw file recovery). Files found this way constantly overlap and totally may well exceed the disk size many times.

Thanks Alt.

Do you know of any other products that support XFS?

If I'm not mistaken, ufsexplorer does.

Hi

I have been having another thought about this and realised I might not have explained myself well - the SANs have an XFS file system configured - but they are formatted with NTFS in Windows, which explains why R-Studio could read the damaged volume.

Does R-Studio have a volume size limit as I have had to split the destination volumes down to multiple 2TB volumes to enable R-Studio to write to it.

Do you have a 32 or 64-bit version?
