What about VHD

hello!

How is it about the possibility to scan and disk/disk-image for VHD signature, find the offset and directly opening the corresponding VHD file?

Is this feature available in R-Studio?

Thank you
Cor.

You may recover data from a VHD disk in the following way:
1. If the disk can be attached, attach it, it appears in R-Studio's Drive panel as a disk. You may process it like a regular disk.
2. If it cannot, remember that such disk contains all attributes of a real logical disk. So, scan the disk (a logical or hard one) on which the VHD disk resided, and find it among Recognized partitions. It should be marked even with the red or green color. Open the recognized partition and recover data. If the VHD disk is damaged and require further processing, create a region on the host disk with the size and offset of the VHD disk (taken from its Properties tab) and scan it. You may take precise data in sectors from its Properties tab.
Tested for the MBR and GPT VHD disks.

And if this is a damaged VHD file, open it as an image and scan it.

Thank you for the reply

But we are in doubt about two unknowns:
- maybe one disk in the RAID set is un-consistent, out of date (since one out of 5 is gone, and we are using "missing disk")
- maybe LVM2 descriptors are damaged (again sign of the same above un-sure disk)

We are still investigating.
