Recovered files much larger than original

My apologies, but I searched the forum and couldn't find exactly the same issue. I accidentally formatted one of my hard drives, and I'm using R-Studio to recover my files. Mostly, they are video files. When I recover them, the files are usually much larger than their original size. For example, a certain file is 65GB, but originally was about half a GB. I'm using Handbrake to shrink them down to original size, but I'm wondering why the recovered files are so impossibly large and if there's anything I can do about it. Thanks.

Most likely, those large files are recovered using scan for known file types. This article: File Recovery Basics: How Data Recovery Works explains why such files may be so large.
