attempting to use R-linux to recover some files.
when i go to select the output folder i get a pop up that says

"Using the same drive as file destination is not recommended. Click Cancel to abort or Save to continue at your own risk."

I am attempting to save the files to an external usb device. with the path
/media/Username/device_name/folder_name

is this a default message that shows up regardless? or is it an actual warning.

Thanks

This is just a warning. If you're saving files to another partition, nothing is to worry about.

On the other hand, if you're trying to save the files back to the same drive and same partition as you're recovering off of, you're going to destroy the recovery and most likely overwrite 90% of the files.

R-Studio / Linux simply won't let you do that. Plain and simple.

That's good to know. I've never actually tried to do that, so wasn't sure. If only all data recovery software worked this way it'd save a lot of people's data. I see cases all the time where people tried to recover back to the same drive and really messed everything up.
