restore HFS+ partition

Post by Isramozart » Wed Jun 27, 2018 5:04 am

Situation:
2TB usb disc originaly formatted HFS+ for Mac.
Erroneously formatted to exFat.
I have another 2TB WD Passport HFS+ formatted
and R-Studio Network for Windows.
exFat formatted disk was scanned by R-Studio
and I see HFS+ partition - 238 GB.
( no deleted files, no execution on disc after accident. Disk
working properly no bad sectors)

How to restore full HFS+ partition?
It’s content specific formatted (unknown) files which was sorted
in many folders.

So, very important to get back names of files and folders

An important question: what computer was used to formate the disk? Mac or Windows?

The problem is that when an HFS+ disk is formatted as an exFAT device, some files can be recovered with their correct file names and paths, some as files with correct content and weird names, and some could not at all.

Thanks for clarifying.
But my question sounded differently -
HOW TO RESTORE HFS+ PARTITION?
I mean WHOLE PARTITION at once
May be there is a way?
R-Studio found 19 "Recognized" HFS+ Partitions after scanning
The first of them - ramdisk: Size 14.99 MB
Perhaps it contains information about the structure of the entire disk which was before formatting?

Well, you have to manually check those recognized HFS+ partitions and see which is one you want to recover. The best way to do so is to preview some files, graphic files best. Then copy all files from that partition to another disk.
But I doubt you will be able to recover all files and folders from the original HFS+ partition. When it had been formatted too much important information was overwritten by data of the new exFAT one.
