Managing Backups

Post by billflyer » Wed Jun 25, 2025 10:57 am

I’m a newbie to R-Drive Image, and would like to know how to manage my growing collection of Differential backups. In addition to the original full backup (D Drive).rdr, I have (D Drive)2.rdr, 3.rdr, 4.rdr, and so on. As my backup media fills up, what should I delete? Should I start with 2.rdr and work my way forward as I make new backups? Can I delete 2 and 4 and keep 3?
How many numbered backups will R-Drive Image create?

Also, when should I Overwrite the original and start over? When I do that, I should delete ALL the Differential backups, right?

Thanks for your help.

That depends on how long you want to keep your data. You need a full backup and at least one differential backup.
