Data Recovery and Disk Utilities Forum @R-TT

I am evalutating R-Drive Image as a "disaster recovery" solution for some of my customers and your program seem to perfectly fit their needs.

The operating systems are Windows Server 2008 x86 and Windows Server 2003 R2 x86.

I sucessfully created the image sets on both a second internal HD and a NAS.

I also successfully restored the image sets using both the linux based cd and the winpe/bartpe based cd.

Immediately after the login following the restore procedure the system show me the "Shutdown evet tracker" windows





I enter some characters in the "comment" field in order to continue the system loading.

The event log contains the following error:



Moreover the Windows Server 2008 suffer of one more problem.
The reboot following the restore procedure the system show me the "windows error recovery" window alerting me that "Windows did not shutdown sucessfully".



The restored systems seems working fine despite the two "glitches".

I wonder if you are aware of the problem and if there is fix coming ?

I tried to create the image sets using:
- Only the "Windows Volume Snapshot Service"
- Only "R-TT Volume Snapshot Service"
- Both

Most likely, some NTFS operations didn't finished successfully when the system was shut down.

It happen only if I restore the two systems.

I created the image sets from two different systems that has ben propertly shutted down or restarted.

It seems that R-Drive Image create an image set that is not "propertly shutted down".

The error in the event log appear only if I restore the system.

I created the image set at 8:19 PM



I restore the system at 8:50 PM





I tried to create the image sets several times and I always encountered the problem as soon as I restore the system.

There are no additional programs in the two servers I am testing. Only the operating system, the drivers and R-Drive Image.
I also replicated the problem with VirtualBox.

Of all the other "disk imaging" softwares I am evalutating this is the only one that give me this problem.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but I do not understand what.

Do you have any advices ?

Anyone else encountered the same problem ?

As said before I would really like to raccomend R-Drive Image to my customers.

OK. I've passed the problem to our developers. We'll investigate into this problem.

We've identified the problem. Windows writes info that it's working and removes the info during the shutdown. When starting after system restore, Windows sees that info and believes that it hasn't been shutdown properly. This appears only once after a system restore.
We'll fix this problem in the next build.

That's a great news. I look forward to trying the new version.

UPDATE:
I tested the new version (4.7 build 4717) and it is working perfectly.

I am interested in how you were able to run R-Drive Image to do the restore while in the WinPE boot CD environment. Can you please elaborate. I would like to try this method (instead of using the Linux-based CD). I already have a WinPE boot disk.
