I am fairly new to R-Studio and this will be my first attempt at recovering a RAID-5 disk; Software RAID-5 disk suddenly shows RAW format on all volumes after OS crash and reboot. I referenced the RAID recovery manual and will go about using the automatic parameter detection (https://www.r-studio.com/automatic-raid-detection.html).

It indicates that I will need to mount a virtual disk. What I gathered from the guide is that I will need to connect a separate disk with the correct capacity and use that for the virtual disk. For example, I am trying to recover about 5 TB of data from what used to be a 16 TB RAID-5 disk. Do I need 5TB or 16TB in the virtual disk to recover it?

My understanding is that you RAID remains valid as a software RAID but its volume(s) became corrupted (RAW instead of a valid file system.). You don't need to create anything virtual.
