RAID ERROR ON HP ML115 G5

Hi to all, I hope that somebody can help me.

I have a Windows 2003 R2 Server with RAID 5 (based on Nvidia NFP3400 Chipset) with n.3 hard drives. I discovered that 1 drive was out of the raid matrix (I don't know from along time it was, perhaps 1 day, perhaps 1 month) and that the server was working in DEGRADED mode. Anyway NVIDIA MEDIA SHIELD said that all drives were healthy so I supposed that I could recover the lost matrix drive from the nvidia application, but I was wrong: the system hangs at the beginning of the procedure (after 1 minute) and at the next system boot raid bios showed a "RAID ERROR" message and the server wanted boot any more.

With an external software I have seen that 1 drive has 1250 sector damaged, anyway the other 2 drives seems to be ok.

I have download and installed R-Studio demo v5.4.134259 , from the main menu I have selected "Create Virtual Raid Volume Set", I have dragged only 2 drives (the third is broken), I have selected the "SCAN" procedure and selected to discover "ALL KINDS OF FILES" (I have a Sybase v8.0 SQL db archive but I have not found any *.db pattern in your list) , I have selected to save results to an external drive, and now the system says that I have to way near 6 hours to end.

I'd like to know if this is the correct procedure for my case.

Sincerely,
P. Lo Pumo

No, you need to add a "Missing disk" object as a replacement to the broken disk to your virtual RAID, and create a virtual RAID5 with appropriate parameters. R-Studio's online help will explain how: Basic RAID 4 and RAID 5 Operations.
