G-Raid enclosure died

Post by fgutierrez » Wed Jul 06, 2016 11:58 am

Hey there.

I have an old G-RAID who just stopped working. Hardware based Raid 0 unit with 2 HDs.
I've opened the case and removed both hard drives to test them and they seem to be just fine, but i cannot get them to mount since they were in Hardware based Raid 0 mode. My case just died so i cannot get it to even turn on.

Question is: Does R-Studio for Mac will be able to recover my data?
I haven't tried anything on it yet.
i can install both HDs inside my macpro or use a single dock to connect them one at a time.

Im running 10.10.5 Yosemite on a 2012 Mac Pro.

thanks

Yes, R-Studio can recover these units just fine. I've done plenty of them. It's not going to automatically find the settings of the RAID 0 though, you'll need to manually configure it.

There's no cookie cutter answer to that. You have to analyze the file system structures and figure it out, or just brute force it.

Just figure out which one has the MBR (partition table), that's the first drive in the rotation. Then try every possible stripe size and see if you can open the file system and preview files.

If nothing changed...
HGST G's RAIDs can't be destriped with R-Studio

Let me check

I'll give you a confirmation ASAP

Yes
Confirmed

Neither with latest version 8

Some G-Raid 0 can't get destriped

If you are in trouble, feel free to send me a private message.

Kind regards

This is untrue, it absolutely can be done with R-Studio, I do it all the time. You just have to know how to use the program.

They can all be done, you just have to know how to manually specify the stripe size as it's not one of the default ones.
