Recover deleted files from Raid1

Post by turkvu » Sun Jan 04, 2015 12:58 pm

Hi - had just finished a month long project to re-organize all my music, videos and pics on my 4TB raid1 NAS - the last step was to remove empty folders and folders with small files in them. I used a program called GetFolderSize - when I went to delete 1 folder, it deleted the entire drive. A few of the smaller folders were in the recycle bin, but still missing the vast majority of files - so trying r-studio to recover them.

Since it was Raid1 - I scanned 1 of the 2 drives using r-studio. It scanned overnight. The device view now shows the ext4 partition with the few files I was able to recover from the recycle bin, a chunk of Extra Found Files, and then about 100 'Recognized' items listed in orange.

When opening any of the 'Recognized' items and opening drive files I get a list of folders with unrecognizable characters.

When opening the Extra Found Files it shows lists of actual files, but they are all named with random numbers. Since there are probably 10k+ files I really don't want to try to recreate the folder structure and file names. Is there anything else I can try to get not just the files, but the folders/names as well?

Thanks for any & all help.

Well, when Linux deletes files, it does delete them. You have one option - recover files using Extra Found Files. You may read more about that in our article: File Recovery Basics: How Data Recovery Works.
