Time to scan a large hard drive

Post by houdini65 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 9:15 pm

I read quite a few threads and I couldn't find the answer.

What is a normal average time to scan a large drive starting at 250GB going forward? I know that it is system specific, but since most systems that were sold have 4GB Ram and a CPU running at 2.5GHz averaginq high-low end systems, what would the time be?

Personally, I have one at each end of the scale. With the fastest an i7 975 @ 3.33GHz w/ 6GB Ram and the slowest being an anchor AMD XP1800+ @ 1.76GHz w/ 768MB Ram( NO laughing!  ) It does everything it's used for: eMail, Web, Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access) TV Shows/Movies out to the TV, Basically everything except new games.

The verdict is ....?

Thanks, Erich

And verdict is: that's drive-specific rather than system-specific. That is, scan time mostly depends on the number of partitions ever been on it, the number of files, and the complexity of folder trees.
So there is no any relevant estimates.
