NTFS to RAW Drive Conversion - Recovered Files Too Large

Post by Michael » Fri Nov 26, 2010 3:12 pm

I have a client who took a 1TB drive (formatted NTFS) to hot swap it for one of the drives in his LG N2R1DD2 NAS system, but in doing so the NAS wiped the partition and converted it to a RAW format. The NAS is a server which is based on a Linux based OS, so I'm thinking that it converted the partition to an ext3 for its format, but Windows was seeing it as RAW, and the Linux system was seeing it as a clean drive no data.

I ran R-Studio data recovery and found the files that were original stored on the drive in avi and mp3 format, but my problem is that the recovered files are 20 times their original size. I'm I missing a setting or two when configuring my scan of the drive? I have exhausted the forum search for anything comparable, so forgive me if this is a repeat question asked before. Recovery is not my specialty, but I get these request from time to time and this is the first time this problem has arose. I think the twist on this issue is the Linux server conversion of the drive.

Thanks for any help that can be sent my way.

Mike

Are those files recovered as Known File Types, or from the folder/file structure?
