Dear all
How should I configure a backup job so as to minimise CPU temperature, please? I imagine that lowing the compression is one thing I can do. What though about CPU priority and number of cores? Apriori, those matters are not so clear - and my (limited) testing has been inconclusive.
Here is why I ask the question. On some backups, my computer's CPU gets into the 90s Celsius. (The fundamental problem here is that my computer gets too hot when under any sustained high CPU load. This is a cooling problem, but I can manage most programs sufficiently to prevent overheating.)
Details of my system
- Windows 10
- R-Drive Image Standalone 7.2 (7203)
- I am backing up a SATA III SSD to a mid-speed HDD
- CPU Intel i7 3770s
- Generally my system works well.
- I've excluded the backup destination from my anti-virus (which is ESET's 'nod32').

It can be found only by testing.

@Alt
Thanks. I wondered though whether tests of other machines had been carried out and had results that were at all generally applicable.
