Restored C: fails to boot.

Post by 3to4 »

Hello,
With Build 4402 installed, I tried to restore, from within Windows XP, an image of C: drive made previously. The restore process went ok, but C: drive failed to boot with "NTLDR missing") So, I used the boot CD made with 4401, and 4401 restored C: which boots fine. The image I tried to restore was made with 4400 or 4401. (I don't remember exactly.) Hence, my question : To restore the image, do I always have to use the build which served to make the image? Or, is there some instability in 4402?

I'd rather say it's better to use the CD version.

Thanks, but I think it is VERY IMPORTANT to be able to restore C: from within Windows without rebooting with a boot CD. My laptop doen't have a CD/DVD drive, and when I travel, I don't always carry an external drive. I am sure many users are in my case.

Sorry. I forgot to mention that with 4318 I was regularly restoring C: from within Windows without any problem.

You are quite right, R-Drive Image should be able to restore a system/boot disk without a CD version. I passed the problem to our developers. Maybe they will need more information from you. May we contact you through your e-mail you registered with?

Yes, of course. As R-Drive Image is the disk-image software I like the best. I will do what I can.

Hello,

Well, this time, the restored C: drive doen't boot, but in a different situation.

I wanted to upgrade my old 320GB hard drive to 500GB.

I have a CD of an image of C: from the old 320GB drive. So, I put the new 500GB in my PC. I made the partitions (C: = same size as before), booted with bootable CD (4738) and restored the C:. However, the restored C: did not boot with the message "ntldr missing". I tried with a bootable CD (4400). Then, the restored C: booted.

Is this normal? I would expect newer versions would work better.

I've passed the problem to our developers. Thanks for reporting.

Please, contact our techsupport providing them with the following:
1. A link to this topic.
2. A system dump with the connected image of C:
3. A system dump of the system that won't boot (using the bootable CD)
System dump: About -> System dump.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I took the system dumps, but should I use the technical support request form? Then, how can I attach the system dumps?
