I don't think that having 2 disks C; in one system is a good idea, Maybe, disk D: imaging/restore?

I'm a new user and want to verify that Restore works and exactly how it works. I've created an image of my C: (OS) partition. Since I don't want to overwrite my current C: (OS) partition, should I instead restore it to D:(back up) drive as a test ?
