Used space bigger after restore operation

by DawCek » Wed Jan 21, 2026 2:40 am

Hello Everyone on forum.

I've noticed small issue with R-Drive Image software.
After restore operation, used space of Windows partition is bigger than original one.
I have create backup image on running system, not via live boot USB.
As far i know this approach uses shadow copy service from Windows OS.

After restoration, i tried clean space by available methods like built-in disk cleanup app and removing restore point/shadow copies.
It didn't work for me.
I could notice that in default location for shadow copies (c:\System Volume Information) there are 3 shadow copy file, which size is about the same like amount of additional space used after restore.

Is this normal? How it can be avoided ?
