unable to mount

i am trying to restore an image to a usb drive. it is an image of the same drive from a year ago. it says estimated time is 9 secs but after about 5 mins( or longer) i get an unable to mount drive error. light on drive is active during the 5 min but then is off on the error. status bars in program are all the way to the end. am i missing something.
