Huge file systems require huge RAM to process.
There are some memory settings to play with on the
Memory Usage. You may see how much memory R-Studio consumes on the
Memory usage dialog box.

I don't think memory is an issue. RStudio64.exe process reaches a maximum memory of 1040284K. This server has 64GB of RAM and total memory allocation is about 10%.

Most likely, some corruptions in the file system.
