Read Disk failed error

I keep getting Read disk at position ... failed after 1 attempt. The system cannot find the file specified (2) error when scanning. It seems improbable, because other software scans and recovered plenty of files from this drive. The scan is a standard scan without any changes to the software after installation. Please advise.

R-Studio accesses hard drives through standard Windows procedures. That means that not R-Studio, but Windows itself cannot read the disk. And what is the other software that could?

Stellar Phoenix. I assumed that the method of getting the data must be similar if not the same, and that's why I inquired. Perhaps there is a setting that I missed, or something...

Did you scan the disk with Stellar or just opened the disk?

Scanned before I purchased R-Studio and recovered some files. Then tried R-Studio, got nowhere and came back to Stellar and recovered some more.
