Creating image is very slow
I am trying to use R-Drive Image to create an image of a 250 GB Samsung 840 SSD. The estimated duration was 11 minutes 55 seconds. However, 30 minutes in, the estimated time left is 2 hours 6 minutes. The drive seems to be reading at around 25 MB/s according to task manager. I've benchmarked this SSD at over 350 MB/s read speed, so this seems too slow. I set "Image compression level" to the fastest possible.
Is this image creation speed normal for an SSD?

Re: Creating image is very slow
How is the target drive connected to your system? USB3?
Re: Creating image is very slow
Same issues here so will chip in (WIN11 PRO), this program is lovely in so many ways and I really mean that but speeds or estimations for backups are totally off, restorations are quick though.
I have a few EVO 990 PRO SSD's attached to my laptop both internal/external USB3 plus thunderbolt,
these SSD's writes at 6900 MB/s and reads 7450 MB/s so not exactly slow, but issues persists with other SSD's as well.
It must be a glitch somewhere within the program, program estimation for my entire OS is about 2min and 15 sec,
but ends up at 30-40 minutes every time where it stalls at 75% taking forever to complete.
Other programs like Macrium,Terabyte,Hasleo etc finishes same partitions around 1min and 20 sec and it really puzzles me.
Can this please be improved in some way or make it top priority for DEV's to look at?,
for now I only made one golden image with the program but for everyday or weekly use it's kinda hopeless when taking so long.

Re: Creating image is very slow
I've now found out by a pure fluke, I partitioned my SSD 4TB drive to just use 500GB for OS, guess what
Estimation now matches perfectly and backups of OS went from +30 minutes to just 2 minutes with no stalling at 75%, still the same amount of data
So for anyone having this problem with really slow performance or stalling, try partition, it's kinda weird though and shouldn't matter but that did the trick

Re: Creating image is very slow
I'll suggest your devs look at it cause this problem could affect sales and peoples patience for sure, I mean +30 minutes vs 2 minutes packing a lot of headache in times of patience
There's signs of this problems not only in this post but also a few other posts historically and other sources or forums as well
Even this review can give you a tell tale sign that something is up,

I would agree with him, it was horribly slow but not now after I partitioned my drive, I've clocked performance now with other competitors and it's up there and in line with them and estimation now also match, but only after I've re-partitioned "C:" with your program

Re: Creating image is very slow
I have been using R-Drive Image for years and a few latest versions have considerable issue making image to USB 3 drive, to the point that the program becomes so slow it is unusable. I use USB 3.2 and Samsung Shield T7 drive and another NVMe drive in an enclosure. The T7 benchmark shows drive speed as about 900 MB/sec for both read and write. Earlier I was able to do differential image of about 60 GB in size in 30 minutes, now it estimates days and long hours. I use the same settings. When starting to make image, the actual write speed is about 3 MB/sec. After some time it somewhat increases, but not to normal speed as it was before.
This is likely a bug introduced in a few latest versions. I need to try an old version to see how it works.
I use Win 11 Pro with latest updates, R-Drive Image build 7207.

Re: Creating image is very slow
I think we can rule out USB ports out hence tested that and my speeds are resolved now wherever I place my Image (2min tops), this after I re-partioned C: to 500GB rather than utilizing the full 4TB, something seems messed up towards capacity of drives and why it stalls likes that .. don't know exactly why it does that but if we can narrow it down even further they are likely to find what's causing itUser691 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 3:20 amI have been using R-Drive Image for years and a few latest versions have considerable issue making image to USB 3 drive, to the point that the program becomes so slow it is unusable. Re: Creating image is very slow
Further tests including my Y: partition (I wouldn't normally do that" but "Operation 4 of 6" takes two minutes for completion (my entire OS)
And when Y: included which was merely for testing purposes, empty partition (operation 5 of 6) program now stalls at 99% saying one minute to complete and remains there in a forever state
So this is probably all about capacity of TB drives as if the program is confused by it
