Feature request: generate differential / incremental image from two existing full images

Post by bkerouan » Sat Dec 13, 2025 3:49 am

Hello,

I would like to ask whether it is possible — or planned — to generate a differential or incremental image retroactively from two existing full disk images created at different points in time.

I have several full disk + partition images of the same machine, taken independently with R-DriveImage over time.
At the time they were created, no differential or incremental scheme was enabled.

Later, storage usage becomes significant, and it would be very useful to be able to:
- take Full image A (older)
- take Full image B (newer)
- generate a third image C containing the full image A, plus the incremental backup of B.
- delete the A and B full images, since the image C now contains the two backups.

In other words, convert two existing full images into a structured differential image (relative to A), or incremental image (A → B)

Is such a feature technically possible within R-DriveImage?
Maybe a separate consolidation / comparison tool would be useful to develop?

This would be extremely useful for users who already have a large archive of full images and want to optimize storage without recreating everything from scratch.

Thank you for your time and for R-DriveImage.

Best regards,
Bruno
