RAID1 data recovery

Post by netracer60 » Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:27 am

I have a RAID1 of two Seagate Barracuda drives of 8TB each. I mistakenly disassembled the RAID, removed one of them and mounted one drive from the other RAID in place. It was quickly recognized in a second without any action, just powered off and reassembled the RAID properly. Unfortunately, the RAID is not recognized by Windows 10 and 11. Windows also does not recognize each drive individually. I scanned just the drive #2 of this RAID alone with R-studio for 14 hours and it shows that it is completely empty! Any chances to recover my data from this data array?

Update: I tried scanning drive #1 of my RAID1, but it seems to have some problem. The 0.1TB test scan shows me 20 days remaining, so it would take years to scan all 8TB. It also says:

Sectors 0-31 failed to read from after 1 attempt. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error (1117)
Sectors 0-31 failed to read from after 1 attempt. Incorrect function (1)

Meanwhile, the full scan process for 8TB Drive #2 was pretty good and took only 15 hours, but in the end it showed me a completely empty space without a single file.
So is there a chance?

Looks like drive 1 is failing or broken.
I believe that your chances are to going to a reputable data recovery pro. I cannot understand why your healthy drive is empty. Was the RAID encrypted? Was the RAID created in a special hardware?

Drive1 may be failing because the scan is so slow that it couldn't complete in the allotted time
Meanwhile Drive 2 looks healthy, it was fully scanned for 15 hours but no files were found.
The drive was filled with about 7.5TB of data but after the scan it is recognized as empty
No encryption
RAID was created in the ICY BOX 3621 docking station that Amazon delivered to me last year

I scanned the drive through this dock station as well

Looks very strange. What do you see when you open the drive in the build-in Hex reader? Somewhere in the first quarter of the disk?
