Recovering RAID From ReadyNAS Ultra 6

Discussions on using the professional data recovery program R-STUDIO for RAID re-construction, NAS recovery, and recovery of various disk and volume managers: Windows storage spaces, Apple volumes, and Linux Logical Volume Manager.

@Alt, I suspect the reason why R-Studio isn't detecting LVM is because the first 2 raids are not LVM (they are mdadm raid 1 volumes), so it just assumes they are all mdadm.

I ran ReclaiMe Free RAID Recovery just for fun and I got this output:

Code: Select all

The array type is RAID6.
The array consists of 6 disks.

The disks are ordered as follows:
#00: Image file D:\Mount\NAS03\Disk6.dsk
#01: Image file D:\Mount\NAS03\Disk1.dsk
#02: Image file D:\Mount\NAS03\Disk2.dsk
#03: Image file D:\Mount\NAS03\Disk3.dsk
#04: Image file D:\Mount\NAS03\Disk4.dsk
#05: Image file D:\Mount\NAS03\Disk5.dsk

Block size is 64.0 KB , same as 128 sectors.
The data starts at sector (LBA) 64 (this is often called "offset" or "start offset").

Block map is as follows:

    1 2 3 4 P ?
    6 7 8 P ? 5
  11 12 P ? 9 10
  16 P ? 13 14 15
    P ? 17 18 19 20
    ? 21 22 23 24 P

Unfortunately, nothing useful was reconstructed or the array cannot be converted for R-Studio.

It doesn't think R-Studio can recover it at all :(

I really don't want to spend $199 on ReclaiMe.

I don't think this is quite right though, I think it's munged the OS (md0) and Swap (md1) RAID 1 mirrors into this pattern.

The free trial of ReclaiMe file recovery can see the Ext file system and files, I can even preview some.

I'm hoping somehow R-Studio can read the LVM volume as well.

Done. Hopefully we can get this working.

I'm currently using ReclaiMe File Recovery which cost way too much but it sees the LVM (actually it sees too many of them and it's missing some folder/filenames) but right now I'm just trying to recover as much as I can.

You indicated that this was something being "worked on", but support (and I gave them the forum link) appears to be starting from the beginning, now I feel like I wasted a month.
