I'm trying to recover a vdi disk image. R-studio has no problem finding the file name, but it recovers an empty file. What are my best options for recovering the contents, without sending the disk out?
Re: R studio sees the file, but recovers it at 0 gigs.
Are you going to recover the file itself or some files from within that virtual disk?
If the first, this is a standard situation for huge files. You have to find the image file using the search for known file types. R-Studio supports the .vdi file format, but ones again, recovery of huge files is difficult. Our article File Recovery Basics: How Data Recovery Works may help to understand why. Pay especial attention to the section: "Method Two: File recovery using search for known file types (raw file recovery)". And an advice: disable all files except Disk Imges -> .vdi on the Settings -> Known File Types tab.
