Extremely SLOW image creation of Ext4

Post by vixxim777 » Sun Jun 14, 2026 3:29 pm

I have been testing the trial version of R-Drive image and 7.3 (build 7314) and tried creating an Image of a 1TB SSD that contains a Linux OS Ext4.
The image took 3 hours and 49 minutes to complete. Total used space across 4 partitions is around 250GB. Destination was to a Usb mechanical drive. I used the "rescue disk" to create the image.

2 Other major imaging software products managed the task in 36 minutes and 50 minutes respectively.

The destination drive is not the problem. R-drive created a Windows image of roughly the same size in only 40 minutes.

I'm not sure what the problem is concerning Ext4 but its a huge issue. Really wanted to like R-Image but half my system is Linux based.

Any help or guidance is truly appreciated.

Thank you for this information. I've passed this to our developers.

Thanks for this. I did keep the log file as well as the txt files created before and after image creation. If I can be of any help, please let me know. The software's performance is excellent except where Linux is concerned and I really hope that changes.

Logs are excellent. Can you send me them (zipped, of course) to my email: raptorbck (at) gmail dot com?
Meanwhile you may try to use the WinPE version for this work.
