iMac not booting with R-Studio emergency

Thanks in advance for your help 8-)
I have an unbootable 2015 iMac that I need to recover files from before erasing.
I've followed instructions and put the R-Studio emergency .iso for Mac on a USB stick and started up the iMac with the option key, but no EFI boot disk appears, only the internet recovery option which leads to the usual recovery mode - no sight of R-Studio.
Have I missed something?
Not at all sure what I'm doing so any guidance would be appreciated, thanks.

Try to boot another computer with this stick to verify that this is a working device.
