I/O errors very slow scan

Post by starbench » Mon Nov 04, 2024 9:28 am

Hello, im trying to recover some files from a hard disk which is shown as un-initialized in windows. Im trying to scan the drive but i get I/O errors like this:

OS I/O error 04/11/2024 14:29:32 Sector 3337377 [4K] failed to read from after 2 attempts.

if i try to start the scan in for instance 100GB into the disc the scan goes well but maybe i missing files.
Is there any way to "Skip" the bad sectors quicker so i can scan the entire drive?

Thanks a lot.

Your drive has serious hardware issues and may completely fail at any moment. One has to be a skilled and experienced data recovery professional to deal with such drives.

Yes, if there's a missed data from bad sectors in a file, it won't be recovered.

You may use Multi-pass Imaging if your R-Studio is Technician/T80.

Thanks for the quick response, im now running the multi-pass image creation. So, with the resulting image i will be able to directly search for files?

Thanks again.

I recommend you to click the Options button, switch to the Multi-pass imaging options tab, and disable Trimming and Scraping phases to greatly increase process speed. They usually don't retrieve much data.

Then disconnect the drive, open the image, and process it.
