Would like to know what can be recovered

Post by unsuremaybe » Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:18 pm

Hello

I am trying the demo but would like to know what I can expect to recover before I purchase.

I have an external 4TB SSD that is mounted via a USB3 connection to a Mac running Sonoma. The drive is formatted as APFS (Encrypted). It's only 11 months old.

Something has gone wrong and I cannot unlock the drive. Disk Utility on Mac cannot repair it or unlock it.

Your program R-Studio seems to be able to read *something*.

The attached screenshot shows the content in the "Metafiles" folder. It indicates the recovery chances are Good.

I tried to create an image which estimated it would take 20 days.

What will be recovered? The files listed in the Metafiles folder? What do I do with those to see the actual files.

Thanks!

If you can't see the image, the contents are shown like this:

The drive is formatted as APFS (Encrypted)
This renders file recovery almost impossible for an ordinary computer user.
In addition, I suspect that your storage device is an SSD. That add more to complexity. This article explains why: File Recovery Specifics for SSD and Other Devices Supporting the TRIM/UNMAP command.
