Recommended Ram for r-studio x64

Post by bubbahotep » Fri Nov 13, 2009 1:57 pm

Hello,

i have read that for large disks, more ram is useful to speed up scanning and recovery.

Could you post some recommendations ?

I am using r-studio x64 with 4 gb of ram. during the scanning procedure r-studio only uses 120 mb as per task manager.

are there any suggestions as to how much thigs will accellerate with 8 gb of ram or more ?

cheers
bubba

That depends on the disk size and how complex the folders/files structure is. Give me size of your disk and estimation on how many files are on the disk, and I'll be able to give you some advices.

Hi,

its a 4 x 1tb raid 5 so the gpt partition is 2.7 TB. I guess it was more than 1 million files...

Well, adding RAM should improve the performance while disk scan and file enumeration.

Well, I added 4 gb, so its 8 gb ram and installed win 7 x64. it took 11:37 hours to scan my drive.

I did the same scan before asking here with 4 GB ram and win 7 x86 and it took 10:03 hours for the exact same scan.
